Pleasure and Purpose…DONE!
pleasure-and-purposedone

And it’s off for crit…wheeeeee!

snippet:

She ran her tongue over her lips in a gesture that had fascinated him the past but now left him cold. “I heard you went deep, Puppy. What a shame.”
“I wish you wouldn’t call me that.”
“If wishes wore saddles, I’d have no need of a pony.” She laughed, a bright and tinkling sound like chimes of glass. Larissa lifted a brow and looked purposefully at Mina. “You might have done more for her, Puppy. You might have at least dressed her properly. It is your place, you know, to provide for her.”
The crowd dispersed around them, another dance starting. Alaric didn’t join it, and neither did Larissa. She ran a finger across the lace at his cuffs.
“She’s kept you tidy, I see. But then you always did clean up rather well. It’s a pity you haven’t seen fit to do the same for her.”
Before he could reply, she laughed in his face. “You’ve no idea what I mean, do you? Oh, by the Arrow, you do so amuse me more when I need not tolerate your simple head every day.”
The words stung but he only smiled.

SWITCH — is done!
switch-is-done

So, I finished Switch. Now all it needs is some crit and I can send it off to my editor.

Thank god.

This book has been a tough one.

I’m not entirely convinced I don’t hate it.

But I didn’t hate it as much this last time when I went through it.

We’ll see.

Switch!
switch

Yesterday I spent a few hours going over SWITCH with a fine-toothed comb, a.k.a. my red pen. Well, it was pink. But whatev. The book’s done but for a few minor tweaks here and there, and a few scenes I feel I need to add to polish it up. But I’m cleaning today, not writing (my house has been sadly neglected!)

This means: piles of laundry, vacuuming, etc. and preparation for upcoming beach vacation. Yay!

I really really want to be done with this book, as in, can’t do another thing to it but send it out for crit, by the time I go to the beach. I don’t want to work while at the beach. I want to read. In fact, I will be reading, since I have, literally, about 30 books I’m taking along and I intend to either read them all (or, if they suck in the first couple chapters, put them aside.)

I’m really looking forward to it!

But I’m also thinking I should finish the edits on SWITCH.

snippet:

It was time for something, more, now. I wasn’t sure how I knew this, just that I did the way I knew each day when I went in to work how to gauge Paul’s mood and keep him focused on work so he didn’t hassle me about the job with Vivian.

What frightens you?

I tapped the pen against the paper, then my lips.

I want to know what makes your palms sweat but gets you hard at the same time. What frightens you because you want it so badly?

It wasn’t a question I’d have been able to answer without a lot of thought, but that was the point. To make him think. I sealed the note in a matching plain envelope and ran it down to the mailboxes. Eric was working another twelve-hour shift and I knew he wouldn’t get home until after I’d gone to bed, but I didn’t want to get up early to deliver it, either.

I went online to pay bills and make some changes to my Connex account. I hadn’t been on it in weeks and had a page of friend requests to approve and friends’ list entries to scroll through. Nothing terribly interesting, since the people I knew from home were still doing what they’d been doing when I left.

Even so, I got sucked into watching a series of “ghost-sighting” videos and “true alien abductions”, and so I was awake when my phone hummed and a new text message came through.

I’m afraid of being owned.

Not of being “pwnd” which was something else altogether.

I sat back, the computer forgotten, my heart thundering in my ears and my mouth tasting something like honey all at once. It was the sweetness of anticipation. Expectation.

He was afraid of being owned.

So that’s exactly what I gave him.

Pleasure and Purpose (aka MAVS FTW!)
pleasure-and-purpose-aka-mavs-ftw

So. Yeah. So, yeah, I just finished Pleasure and Purpose (coming next year from Berkley Sensation!)

WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
WHEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
WHEEEEE!

I finished within days of Anya finishing her Witch book and Lauren finishing Relentless, and wheeeeeeeeee!!!!

snippety doo-dah day:

When she stood before him in the dress, her high-heeled shoes a perfect match, the soft gloves rising to just above her elbow, Mina thought no mirror could better reflect her than Alaric’s eyes. Men had gazed at her with wonder before this, and with adoration, but none had ever looked upon her with such utter satisfaction.
She was brand-new before him
.

Sigh.

Going to bed now.
Will begin edits tomorrow.
Will clean desk tomorrow.
Will do happy dance and vblog…tomorrow. Maybe.
Watch for a new Summer Movie Contest! Get your thinking caps on!

P and P again…
p-and-p-again

Rapidly nearing the end! Less than 30 pages to go. Sadly, that 30 pages is likely to take me until next week to finish, since it’s…you know. SUMMER. Heading off today to my father’s house to let the kids swim in his pool. I have this crazy idea I’ll be able to sit and write.

CRAZY!!!!

But maybe not.

snippet:

Larissa could be cold, and she could be cruel, but now she looked at him with a fondness he’d never thought to see again. “If you’d loved me less, I would have loved you more.”

New release from Lauren Hawkeye!

I got to know Lauren over at the eHarlequin Spice Rack, so when she had a new release out, I said, HEY. Why not tell a bit about it? And she did. :)

She’s giving away a free download of the story to one lucky commenter, so comment to win! Winner drawn April 9, 2009.

blurb:

When Imogen and Adam meet in the shadowy dark of their local movie theatre every month, they are both looking for nothing more than quick, hot sex; a fantasy come to life. Their February meeting takes a surprise turn, however, and Adam winds up following Imogen home, where they indulge in a playful, erotic afternoon, and discover that perhaps there is more to their relationship than they had originally thought.

Excerpt…
Feature Attraction

It was February. The man waited– five minutes, then ten. It was all a part of the game: the wait, the delicious anticipation stretched out as long as they both could stand. Nevertheless, he checked his watch repeatedly. Thirteen. Fourteen. Was she going to stand him up, this time? This time, would he be forced to turn away, to move back onto the crowded city streets, to go home unsatisfied?

He saw her. She never walked, but rather glided, a slow, haughty gait that said she didn’t much care if you waited for her or not.

He knew her only as Imogen. Whether that was her real name or not, he didn’t know; but, for what they were there for, it didn’t much matter, either.

She was dressed all in black, as was usual. A sheer black sweater hugged her breasts tightly, which was lucky for her, since she was clearly not wearing a bra. A flimsy, lacy excuse for a skirt flirted with the tops of her thighs, and her heeled leather boots rose above her knees.

In contrast to the unrelieved black, her hair was a shade of blonde so pale it was almost white. It spiraled around her shoulders in loose, tumbling curls– curls that would look angelic on another woman.

He enjoyed standing there in the lobby, watching her approach, watching the other men on the street stumble as they caught sight of her.

As much as they all wanted to fuck her, this afternoon he was the only one who would.

He felt something hot and fizzy rush through his veins, straight from his head to his pants, as she entered the building. She purchased a ticket and strutted right by him without a flicker of recognition. Her musky, sweet perfume mixed in his nostrils with the scents of hot buttered popcorn and sticky sweet soda.. It was a smell he was now trained to drool over, just like Pavlov’s dogs.

He walked past her– as always– at the concession counter, where she invariably paid an astronomical amount of money for a large, syrupy Sprite. She would follow when she was ready.

Inside, instead of following the hall to the large theatre on the right, he veered left, ducking under a velvet rope to the balcony. This section was always closed for midday movies. He settled himself back on the surprisingly wide seat the balcony seating provided and waited, ears cocked, for the sound of her high heels clicking on the steps.

He didn’t have to wait long. The noise of her shoes grew louder and louder until she appeared, breasts jiggling under the thin material of her sweater. He gulped as her lips closed around the straw of her drink, sucking hard.

In the darkness, her blue eyes seemed almost black. Behind her, nameless actors that he didn’t care about began to cavort around the screen. He was focused, completely focused, on her.
“Adam,” she whispered, the first sign of acknowledgement. Slowly, slowly, she slipped off her jacket, an erotic striptease in itself. The she said, so low that he could barely hear her, “Take me somewhere.”

* * * * *

Where did you come up with the idea for the story? I was looking through old vacation pictures, and came across one from… God, probably ten years ago. My family had gone to see a movie in Westwood, Hollywood, and the theatre was just amazing. Plush reclining seats, a dramatic balcony… and mostly empty :)

Do you listen to music when you write, and if so, were there any songs that particularly inspired you? I don’t always, but in this case I was listening to a little song called “Sex Without Love” by extremely underappreciated musician Ben Lee over and over again. It’s on his new album called Ripe- sooo good!

Where can the story be found (buy links) and where can YOU be found online? (Links to your site, blog, myspace, whatever) The story will be available Friday March 28 at www.whispershome.com, and my site is www.laurenhawkeye.com

Thanks again Megan!

Sweating!

74000 / 100000 words. 74% done!

lines of the day:I dropped the belt. It was a prop and I didn’t need it. Wasn’t going to use it. If I couldn’t leash and collar him with my words, then I didn’t deserve to have him.

I also finished my rough draft of Layover and I’m just waiting for final crit to make sure it’s all pretty and stuff before I send it in.

I have 100 pages to go in Switch and more story than that to fill them. EEEP! Oh, well. It will all work out in the end.

And then it’s on to Pleasure and Purpose, and man, am I excited!
