Envy and Negative Nellies

Oh, well, the glory couldn’t last. :)

My days as number one on the Amazon.com bestseller list (Erotica, yo!) are passed. I’m hovering at number ten now. Dirty and Broken have dropped in rank and made it onto some lists, too…pulled along by Tempted I guess and not bad for two books a year old. I’ll take it, yes I will!

It would easy, I guess, to look at the lists and ranks and be upset because I’m not number one anymore. But let’s face it. There will always be someone with a better deal, better sales, a better cover. You can stomp your feet and gnash your teeth or you can sit your butt in the chair and write the best book you can. I know what I choose.

Not that I’m immune to envy. I’m most certainly not. I want the pretty and the shiny, too. But I try never to let the gimme get in the way of the thankee. I work hard for what I have achieved. Nobody can take that away from me. I saw a bumper sticker yesterday that said Nobody can make you feel inferior without your consent.

And it’s so true, isn’t it?

But there are so many people in the world who want want want and never take the time to be grateful for what they have. They spend their time detailing all the nitpicky things wrong in their lives — so their hotel bathroom doesn’t have a soap dish and someone else’s does. So what? Instead of being grateful they can afford to stay in a hotel and take a vacation, they focus what they don’t have.

I find people like that very draining and difficult to be around, because I want to shake them and say “you are blessed. Be grateful.”

I’m not immune to envy. I want. So I’ll strive to get what I want, and if that means working hard, well, I’ll try. And if it comes to me, then it comes and I’ll be grateful once I get it. And if it doesn’t, well…lesson learned for me then, huh?

M

PS — wrote ten pages today again, but don’t have the urge to make a counter for the progress. Steady as she goes, loves. Steady as she goes.

Megan’s Minions: Tez Miller

I don’t know how I “met” Tez…some sort of internet thing, I think. But now she’s my Minion and frankly, she’s a good one!

Here’s what she had to say…

Howdy-ho to Mama Megan and her readers. Until a certain other Minion, I have not been in Mr Romance contests. Probably because I’m a female ;-) I’m Tez Miller, in my early twenties, from the weird, wacky and wonderful world that is the Southern Hemisphere. Here in Victoria, Australia, Christmas is in summer, the cars drive on the left side of the road, and if you say “VD” we’ll assume you mean Venereal Disease. Because Valentine’s Day and STDs can go hand-in-hand ;-) Hope you were all safe this year.

Vital stat: I am self-obsessed. I don’t think I’m fabulous, but I do get a thrill whenever I’m name-checked on someone’s blog. Pathetic, but that’s me ;-)

Shower song: I am physically unable to sing if anyone else is home. They haven’t threatened me; my conscience prevents me ;-) Usually I get some theme song or ad in my head. Remember the TV show, That’s My Bush? See if you can find its theme on the Internet. “He’s the president in residence, he’s kinda in charge…” That TV show was a hoot; how come it still hasn’t come to DVD in Australia? I demand Region 4 DVDs!

Doors with pictures: happy face, star, dollar sign. I pick the dollar sign, so I can buy myself some happiness and infamy ;-)

Top or bottom: I’ll keep it clean ;-) When I go shopping, I most likely buy tops, rather than pants/skirts.

Left or right: I’m a right-hander, which puts me at a creative disadvantage. The right half of your brain controls your left side, and is also your creative centre. Because I’m a right-hander, I’m therefore not as creative…at least, that’s the excuse I use ;-)

Vanilla or chocolate: Vanilla; the stains are easier to remove ;-)

Sam or Dean: Dean, because Jensen Ackles was willing to play a silly game on an Australian TV show recently.

Favourite place in the world: I think I’m destined for Canada. Haven’t decided whereabouts yet. I’ve heard that Vancouver and my Melbourne are very similar, but I might want to pick a timezone that’s not so far in the past ;-)

Thanks for the questions, and have a lovely day! :-)

She also has a cat…
