Megan’s Minions! Interview with Support Supernatural creators Heather Vitas and Lindsay Warren
megans-minions-interview-with-support-supernatural-creators-heather-vitas-and-lindsay-warren

I ran into Heather and Lindsay more than once at the Cherry Hill con, but it wasn’t until I got home and, via the wonders of Facebook, that we actually met. They’ve got a neat project going on right now, and I thought it would be neat to let all you Supernatural fans out there hear about it.

Hi, Heather and Lindsay! Thanks so much for agreeing to be interviewed for my blog.
Thank you, Megan, for taking the time to interview us. It is an honor to talk to you about what we love to do!

1. How did Support Supernatural get started?
Originally it started because we were afraid that Supernatural was going to be canceled and not be back for Season 3. So we started post card campaigns to send thank yous to the sponors of the show and The CW to let them know how much we loved the show and wouldn’t let it die without a fight.

2. How long have you been running the site?
It’s been a little over 2 years now.

3. What’s your favorite part about working with the site?

Heather: I love searching for all the links to tell people about. I also love getting all the interviews we have been getting lately. It’s awesome to have such cool stars opened to doing interviews for such a little ol’ website like ours.

Lindsay: My favorite part is simple – being able to do two things at once: promote Supernatural, the best show on television, and help out some wonderful non-profits.

4. How many conventions have you been to? Which has been your favorite?
Heather: I’ve been to four conventions so far. I would say the first EyeCon and the last Creation convention in New Jersey were my favorites. Just because they were so laid back and I was more comfortable at them seeing that I now had friends to hang with. The first convention I went too was awesome because I was so nervous about everything, but in a good way. It was so exciting.

Lindsay: I attended the same four as Heather. My first certainly was special! I’ve loved them all though. There is a lot to be said about meeting people who are just as passionate about something as I am.

5. What led you to begin fundraising for charity using the Support Supernatural site? Can you describe a bit of the process that goes into collecting donations and making sure they get where they’re supposed to go?
Heather: I think Lindsay and I thought it would be a good idea to raise money for charity and hopefully be able to get Supernatural into the news more. Lindsay had lots of contacts and knew how to get the right addresses to send our press releases to. This was a way to get our campaign into the news along with SUPERNATURAL.

Lindsay: That’s right, Heather. I have experience in marketing/public relations. I planned events and worked on marketing campaigns (at my former job) for 6 years. The one constant I found was that if there was a charity tied in, the event or marketing plan would be a success. Plain and simple, helping charities is always a win-win.

As for the specifics of making sure the donations go to the right charity, we allow everyone who wants to donate to write personal checks to the charity if they do not want to donate online. And for the online donations, we use firstgiving.com, which sends the money directly to the charity. The less that comes through our hands, the better. We’re just the middle men (women)!

6. Why Supernatural?
Heather: I have been a fan since day one. When I saw the original previews for the show I knew I would love it. I was a big X-Files and Buffy fan. I had also seen Jared Padalecki in Gilmore Girls and Jensen Ackles way back in his Days of our Lives days so I knew I liked their acting. It was right up my alley.

Lindsay: I often joke about my hubby “doing this to me.” He wanted to watch the pilot so badly, so I checked it out with him and I instantly loved it. I’ve never enjoyed a show more. I’m the kind of person who always roots for the underdog. And it was clear to me from day one that Supernatural was an underdog. It’s on a smaller network and has always had stiff competition. So I promote it every chance I get!

7. Favorite Supernatural episode?
Heather: Oh man…….that’s a hard one. I love the funny ones like Hell House and Ghost Facers. But on the other hand the more emotional ones are great too for that brotherly moment feel.

Lindsay: This in indeed tough. I agree with Heather that he humorous episodes are classics and I find myself watching those over and over, probably because they are not emotionally draining. If I had to narrow it down to just one favorite, I’d have to say my favorite episode is probably “What Is and What Shall Never Be.”

8. If you could be dropped into an episode of Supernatural, which would it be, and why?

Heather: Wow ….. interesting question…yeah I have to think about this one…I think Hell House or Ghost Facers.

Lindsay: Wow, what a great question! I’ve never thought about this before. Hmm…I think I’d have to be in a light-hearted episode. I cry at the drop of a hat, so I would not want to be a basket case. “Hollywood Babylon,” “Tall Tales” and “Monster Movie” are fantastic episodes and it would be a blast to be dropped into any of them!

9. Who’s been your favorite celebrity encounter and why?

Heather: Aside from meeting Jensen and Jared?? :) I think getting to see Chad Lindberg at the conventions is great. He always greets you with a smile like he knows you and has known you for years. He’s such a sweetheart. Everyone else is awesome too. Love them all!

Lindsay: Gosh, there are so many wonderful moments at conventions. I have honestly loved meeting every actor! But besides meeting Jensen and Jared (which is always rushed but beyond cool), I really enjoyed meeting Gabriel Tigerman at Eyecon. It was also wonderful to meet Traci Dinwiddie and Misha Collins in New Jersey. They were both incredibly charming. And I agree with Heather that Chad is just a class act. He remembers everyone, which really means a lot. The more I think about it, I could say nice things about every actor I’ve met thus far at conventions!

And the rapid fire portion of the interview!
(Heather’s first / Lindsay’s second)
Chocolate or vanilla? Chocolate / Ditto, Heather!
Dean or Sam? Sam / Dean
Left or right? Right / Left
Coffee or tea? Coffee / Ditto Heather!
North or South? North / South
Mars or Venus? Venus / Mars

Anything else you’d like to add? Please include information on Support Supernatural, the site address, specifics on the fundraising, etc.

www.supportsupernatural.com
www.firstgiving.com/adogsliferescue
We’re also on MySpace / Facebook / Twitter.

Fundraising goal: $10,000
Campaign ends: 8/14/09

We’re doing this for shelter animals (the true underdogs!) and we’re doing this in the hope of more publicity for Supernatural. We are also doing this so the fandom can come together once again to prove how awesome they are! We know we can meet our fundraising goal because Supernatural fans are the most passionate fans in the world.

Lindsay: I’m sure some Supernatural fans think we’re nuts for having large fundraising goal in a recession. But I say, go big or go home! We can do this! And you want to know my real lofty goal? If we do this right, we hope for:

-More press for Supernatural, which could lead to

-Higher ratings, which could lead to

-More advertising revenue, which could lead to

-A BIGGER SEASON FIVE BUDGET for Supernatural!

Like I said, Heather and I like to dream big!

Roll call!
roll-call

All right, so the neat thing is I’m getting hits from allllll across the country! And the world! So I’d love to know who’s from where and what parts of the world is reaching me…and how you found me.

So, if you’d like to win a signed (and caressed!) copy of Tempted, please comment here with where you are in the world (State or Country is fine, you don’t need to give me your address or anything crazy like that…)

And I’ll draw one winner from all the comments by…oh…well, the end of August, 2008!

And thanks for reading my blog! ;)

Megan’s Minions: Tez Miller

I don’t know how I “met” Tez…some sort of internet thing, I think. But now she’s my Minion and frankly, she’s a good one!

Here’s what she had to say…

Howdy-ho to Mama Megan and her readers. Until a certain other Minion, I have not been in Mr Romance contests. Probably because I’m a female ;-) I’m Tez Miller, in my early twenties, from the weird, wacky and wonderful world that is the Southern Hemisphere. Here in Victoria, Australia, Christmas is in summer, the cars drive on the left side of the road, and if you say “VD” we’ll assume you mean Venereal Disease. Because Valentine’s Day and STDs can go hand-in-hand ;-) Hope you were all safe this year.

Vital stat: I am self-obsessed. I don’t think I’m fabulous, but I do get a thrill whenever I’m name-checked on someone’s blog. Pathetic, but that’s me ;-)

Shower song: I am physically unable to sing if anyone else is home. They haven’t threatened me; my conscience prevents me ;-) Usually I get some theme song or ad in my head. Remember the TV show, That’s My Bush? See if you can find its theme on the Internet. “He’s the president in residence, he’s kinda in charge…” That TV show was a hoot; how come it still hasn’t come to DVD in Australia? I demand Region 4 DVDs!

Doors with pictures: happy face, star, dollar sign. I pick the dollar sign, so I can buy myself some happiness and infamy ;-)

Top or bottom: I’ll keep it clean ;-) When I go shopping, I most likely buy tops, rather than pants/skirts.

Left or right: I’m a right-hander, which puts me at a creative disadvantage. The right half of your brain controls your left side, and is also your creative centre. Because I’m a right-hander, I’m therefore not as creative…at least, that’s the excuse I use ;-)

Vanilla or chocolate: Vanilla; the stains are easier to remove ;-)

Sam or Dean: Dean, because Jensen Ackles was willing to play a silly game on an Australian TV show recently.

Favourite place in the world: I think I’m destined for Canada. Haven’t decided whereabouts yet. I’ve heard that Vancouver and my Melbourne are very similar, but I might want to pick a timezone that’s not so far in the past ;-)

Thanks for the questions, and have a lovely day! :-)

She also has a cat…

Megan’s Minions guest blog…

Today, please welcome Chris Winters!

I met Chris last year at the Romantic Times Convention, where he introduced himself to me with a full-on, full-frontal, full-body hug. Ok, so anyone who knows me understands that I’m more of a one-armed, sideways, semi-contact hugging person (or a no hug at all person) but hey. When at RT, and a Mr. Romance contestant wants to hug you, what do you do but go with it.

Chris is participating this year in the Mr. Romance Competition again, but it wasn’t until I saw his face all over the Dollar Tree that I thought about asking him to become one of my minions. After all, we’d already shared a hug. It seemed perfectly natural to take the next step by inducting him into the wonders of becoming part of my army. (What? Kiss has an army. I have minions. Want to join? email me, we’ll work it out. No hugs required.)

So, without further ado, I bring you…Chris Winters.

M: First, thank you for agreeing to become one of Megan’s Minions. I realize you didn’t know what you were agreeing to when you said you’d do an interview for my blog, but I only just thought of this last night. Besides, being my minion is easy (just do my bidding!) and though the pay is shite, the benefits are FAAABULOUS.

Chris: HA! I don’t mind. There are times where doing things for free are fine. I mean, it’s more value to see you smile.

(author’s note: He’s a natural at this.)

M: Let’s get started.

Chris: Sure!

M: Please tell us a little bit about yourself, Chris Winters. Man, model, computer geek. (Oh, and minion.)

Chris: Thank you! Well, my name is Chris Winters for all you that joined us or those who do not know me. I am an up and coming actor and model. Ive already appeared in two Discovery Channel programs, did nationwide campaign print work, an international commercial for Suburu, and various work in film like Evan Almighty and various independent film. So, I’ve done some stuff. I will be relocating to do some film shortly. Probably within a year.

I’m an easy going guy who loves to laugh, can be a dork at times, loves to work out and run. I am your typical decent looking guy who is funny and who has a heart! I will also try my best to be the NEW face of romance novels! HA HA!

Computers. Hmmm, well, I worked as a developer for some companies. A few to mention are: G.E. Financial Assurance, Symantec Corporation, and Dominion Enterprises. I mainly program in C++, which is a pretty cool language and PHP. PHP is a webbased language that is like C/C++. I am also certified in a few areas, in the computer world.

M: And okay, I have to say it. You’re so gosh-darned pretty, how do you stand it? If I were you I’d just stand in front of the mirror naked all day and touch myself. How do you manage to get anything done?

Chris: There are things called ‘schedules’ and auditions I go to! *laughs* Seriously, I consider myself decent looking and I don’t let it get to my head. Once you do that, then you become something you are not. Not only that, there are TONS of beautiful people out there, guys and girls. One minute you could be the ‘in’ thing, and next you are not. So, I consider myself gifted from God, who made a deal with me to keep myself healthy. However, on a lighter note, it DOES take time for me to get ready. It’s pretty entertaining too!

(author’s note:…Heh. I bet!)

M: My karaoke anthem is Hanky Panky by Madonna. I’ll sing a lot of songs, but Hanky Panky is the one I will *always* sing. What’s your karoake anthem and why?

Chris: Probably will be Depeche Mode’s “Dressed in Black” because I sing that in the shower a lot. No apparent reason why, but I do. Not to mention I cannot sing, and I try, but that would be the song to do it because it’s ‘dark’ and a bit off key anyway. *laughs*

(author’s note: Be still my heart! Depeche Mode in the shower!)

M: You’re competing again in the Romantic Times’ Convention’s Mr. Romance Contest. Do you have a strategy, this year, for winning the coveted Reader’s Choice popularity award? How much woo do you plan to pitch? What do you feel your strengths are in the competition this year, and how have you been preparing for it?

Chris: This year I plan to be more flirtatious and again; myself! Last year I won a lot of hearts because I was just myself and showed women that you can be a man if you are funny, sexy, and charming -all- at the same time! I shocked many because when I appeared in the contest, a lot of people did not know I was in it! A lot of people said “Oh MY! I never knew that spikey haired guy was in the contest! He sat -right- here next to me during dinner and never mentioned it!”

I think the reason why is because that year, last year, I was there to have fun and test the waters. I never knew how big it was until I went to this. SO, this year I want to be a bit more serious. I’m not sure if I will win or not, but this year I will defintely shine again! I think my strengths are my charm and personality. Looks can always be replaced, overlooked, or even not remembered, but a personality can! This year I will try my best to be around a lot more people so people can remember me more!

(author’s note: Chris *is* funny and nice in addition to being cute, so anyone lucky enough to be attending RT this year, make sure you get the chance to meet him!)

M: Curse you and your balloon seductions! I dropped fifty smackers at the Dollar Tree, lured in as I was by the sight of your face on that poster. What’s your favorite thing to buy from the Dollar Tree, and why?

Chris: Actually, after doing that gig, I enjoy the store! Whenever I get big and famous, I plan to endorse that store! *laughs* Seriously, I enjoy the sugar wafers they sell. You cannot find pure sinful pleasure anywhere else. They have really nice snacks there too. Also their tuna is cheap and they sell it with lemon juice! Yum+eee!

(author’s note: Yum + eee = adorkable)

M: Valentine’s Day is coming. What is your opinion on this lovers’ holiday?

Chris: Seriously? Valentine’s Day? ONE day for a woman?! Valentine’s Day should be every day for a woman. With all the stuff a lady has to do: Wake up next to us men, work, clean, have a child, and then the txing emotions, I think a woman’s day should be everyday. Loving someone should not stop on V day.

(author’s note: Good answer! *claps)

M: Let’s dish about Keanu for a minute. Your Myspace says he’s a person you’d like to meet. Anyone who’s ever spent more than an hour or two with me knows I LOVE KEANU! He is the only other man I would ever marry. So, Keanu. I love him. You’re into him. What is it about Keanu you like so much?

Chris: I like Keanu because he too struggled to get into the industry. Not only that he stays out of the limelight and drama Hollywood tends to carry. He also lives modest, until his sister’s cancer, and him wanting to take care of his family. I studied on Keanu for a while because I consider him a great actor. Many people think he is not, but how many people can pull off learning 200 martial arts moves within a year (Matrix)? How many people can do stunts as he did in the Matrix movie, and perform his lines? He did a great job in other movies like ‘As Good As It Gets’ and even older movies like ‘Permanent Record’, where he plays an intense character? Keanu and I share some qualities as well. We’re both Left handed. He’s also had a difficult times in is life.

(author’s note: I LOVE KEANU!)

M: And finally, just because I have to ask, since you’re Mr. Dollar Tree and all — what would you do for a dollar? (I’ll be bringing one to RT this year, so you’d better make it good.)

Chris: We’ll just keep this one secret until that time, shall we? *laughs*

(author’s note: BWAHAHA! *plots*)

M: Thanks for taking the time to become one of my Minions!

Chris: Anytime!

So, there you have it. A slightly in-depth look at Chris Winters! Find him at his official website, chriswinters.com or his Myspace where you can check out some verrrrry pretty pictures of him as well as catch a peek at some of his film work.

And, just because it IS verrrrrry pretty, and he said I could do it, here are some pictures of him:

From the Dollar Tree poster (I took it with my cell phone)

And from his website. Now, I’ll admit it. I looked at most of his pictures. There are pics of Chris in underwear. And low-slung jeans, covered in dirt and sweat. And in formal wear. And underwear, did I mention that? But when it came right down to it, I thought this picture was really one of the nicest. (Don’t get me wrong. I have absolutely nothing against picture of beautiful men in their underwear, or in objectifying said men. I just liked this one better. But go to his website and check out his pictures, he’s there in all his glory.)

EDITED! Since Photobucket was acting up, Chris linked me to HIS favorite picture of himself. It’s lovely, innit?

photo credit: snagged from Chris’s website, photographer listed as fotografikos.

And, what the hell, just because I know you all out there really want to see one:

Special thanks to Chris for agreeing with good humor to be my minion!

M

PS — Now taking applications for minions. Email me at readinbed AT gmail DOT com. You don’t have to be a beautiful boy to become my minion. You merely have to agree to be interviewed and do my bidding, and if you have something interesting to give away, that always works, too.

Since I forgot to ask Chris if he had anything to give away, I’m going to give away a signed AND CARESSED copy of Tempted to one lucky winner. Just comment here and I’ll draw one name from all the comments (this article will be cross-posted to a couple places) and send you the book. If you already have Tempted I can send you something else from my prize cabinet…or possibly a copy of Dirty /or/ Broken or an older title *if* I have any left…
