Hi, Christopher, I’m Megan…

Music Monday!

So a few weeks ago I found this new singer (new to me, I’m pretty sure he’s been singing for a long time. Long enough not to be new.) Anyway, I bought his album from iTunes, but lo and behold! He’s got a whole bunch of songs up on Youtube! Songs he’s covered that you can’t even buy. BOO! BOO, Christopher Dallman, for making me love your version of When You Were Mine (wow, that takes me back to the good old days of long, hot summers listening to Prince and daydreaming about stuff my mother didn’t want me to think about!) but not making it available to buyyyyy!

And how about this one?

Phew.

Anyway, you know how it goes. If I love it, I want you to love it, too, I want you to have it. So here’s the deal. Post here with your favoritest summer song memory — the song, the summer, what it meant, what you think of when you hear it!

And I’ll draw a random winner to receive my VERY favorite Christopher Dallman song — Brand New Lover (which sadly, I can’t find on Youtube) — from iTunes! Again, as in the past, you must have iTunes enabled and be a US citizen, as I can’t send to non-US iTunes, and that’s the only way for me to get you the music.

Check him out at his website where you can listen to samples of his other songs. Though, sadly, I can’t seem to find a sample of Brand New Lover.

Maybe on his Myspace page.

At any rate, YOU can win the song and give Christopher’s music a try, just do what I said to do and you could be the random winner!

Happy Summer, everyone!

M

PS– What the hell. Over My Head (which you CAN hear a sample of, just above!) is also a great song. I’ll give away a copy of that, too. And yes, since this is crossposted at my blog and Dane Hart Discuss, I’ll give away songs at both places.

Brand New Lover and Over My Head will go to two diff lucky winners at EACH blog, meaning I’m giving away four songs, total. US residents, must have iTunes. (I’m sorry, non-US’ers, but I’ve got a Jason Manns’ CD on the way that I’ll be able to give away internationally.)

PPS– bonus points if you can name the reference in the title of this blog

ETA: Forgot to put a contest end date: FRIDAY, JULY 10 — ! So, enter now with your favorite summer song memories, and you could win a new favorite!

Boys of Summer is one of those songs when I hear it it just takes me back to the summer I was a senior in High School…it makes me think of driving crazy fast, laughing, being oh so non legally drunk, and chasing after boys. I can actually feel the wind in my hair and the sun on my face. We had a friend w/ a convertible, and we cruised everywhere in that thing that summer. And it seems like this was our theme song, we played it so much.

Summer of 69 by Brian Adams is one of my favorites. It played constantly the year that I magically got pregnant with my twin boys, lol.

Here’s a blast from my past. (blushing while still remembering)

From age 12 to 15 I had a HUGE summer crush. I lived in VA but vacationed with family in Fl on a farm, every summer.

I thought about this kid so often, and each summer the crush was renewed. Of course, he didn’t know I even exsisted. Worse yet, he dated one my Cuz’s friends.

But everytime I heard Lionel Ritches ‘Stuck on You’ …I thought of him and Ssshhh, sometimes still remember that old summer crush when I hear that song.

The ‘OLD’ moment was when (I live in Fl now) my daugther came home with a crush and it turned out to be his son!

Miss you, The Stones. I was 17, it was a hot August in La Mourre, a tiny little place in the south of France where I spend all my summer holidays (I’m french…). Just a few houses around a square whith a fountain shaded by two huge plane trees.
Some english friends who also vacation there invited some cousins from Seattle and there was this cute blond guy called Hugh.
Every first week end of August, we have a local dance on the square, an amateur french band singing Miss you was probably painful. Still, when the music stopped, I spent the rest of the night in a field kissing and feeling this Hugh guy knowing I would never see him again. It was fun and a bit wild at that time for me.
When I sneaked in at dawn to try and get some sleep, my mother was waiting for me. She had quickly sliped on a long robe over her nightgown. The robe was flapping in the wind and it seemed to me I was about to fall a prey of a nasty, furious huge red bird. She was not happy. She thought maybe some local bad boy had had his way with me.
Now we laugh about it. And every time I hear Miss you, I think about birds of prey and being a bit wild and I smile.
