To clarify…

My thoughts on a Sunday? Had nothing to do with anyone saying anything about me. And, I’d guess that it had nothing to do whatsoever with anyone who’s reading this blog.

I apologize if I made my reviewing friends uncomfortable. I’m not talking about expressing an opinion or reviewing books. Reviewing isn’t trashing or picking apart or making fun of — and you know…there are blogs that do that and if it’s readers doing it that’s still not my cuppa, but if it’s AUTHORS doing it to AUTHORS, that’s really just lame.

I’m really talking about peers pecking at each other for spite or because somehow it seems cool to be one of the big kids and look down upon someone else for not being where you are; or using your “opinion” to say that’s how we ALL should feel about a subject (what constitutes erotica being one such subject — I’ll make my own opinions on that, thanks, don’t need a voice box to speak for me.)

Honest opinion and review is different than picking something apart. You don’t have to like everything. Nobody does. But I just don’t think authors need to be slamming other authors on the internet. It looks bad for all of us, it’s not necessary. You can dislike something and express your opinion without making it into a huge deal.

So, that’s that — sorry if anyone took my post the wrong way. I wasn’t actually talking about any of you, and nothing was actually directed at me, and it was all sort of a mish mash of stuff, not just one specific thing.

So I was just talking to my housemate about his recent trip to L.A., and he told me about his celebrity sighting. Apparently he asked a very tall guy for directions to a restaurant, and later realized that said very tall guy was none other than “the guy from Gilmore Girls and that new show about ghosts.”

I immediately thought of you. And laughed. :)

Kat’s comment made me laugh :)
People bashing on the net is generally not a good idea or thing. Especially if one is (or is trying) maintaining the appearance of a professional. Or a non middle school girl.

that should be “is trying to” in the parentheses. And I should not be up @ 2:22 am.

@Kat: WHEEEEEEEE! Though I’m a Dean Girl, I’d loooooove to meet Jared. I’m sure we’d get along like a house on fire. Because you know, he’s so tall and I like that in a man. BWAH!

@limecello: Well, sure. I HAVE a middle school age child who doesn’t talk as much crap about her friends and schoolmates as I’ve seen people do online.

And just to further clarify I’m not actually talking about ANY reader blogs at all — I’m talking about author-to-author slamming. I’m not talking about “mean girls” or the “reader-author divide” I hear about sometimes. I’m talking about straight up, people who should know better, dissing their peers for no good reason other than they think it makes them look smart.

I love readers. Without readers why would I write books? And not everyone will like everything. But when you start smacking at each other for stupid reasons (oh, and trying to convince everyone else they should feel the same way!) I get annoyed.
