From today’s work…getting close to the end. Almost done! Might finish tonight!
UNEDITED EXCERPT:
He fell into her slowly, and deep. There’d be an end to it, of course. Things like this only ever worked because they weren’t meant to last. Alex thought Anne knew it as well as he did, even if Jamie didn’t seem to.
In the beginning, Alex had tried staying away but now it was Jamie who left the house early and didn’t come back until much later. He said it was work, and Alex didn’t believe his buddy was lying. He also didn’t think Jamie had any sort of fucking clue exactly what he was doing by leaving Anne and Alex alone together so often. Putting a cock inside a cunt was the smallest of small things when set beside the very long list of what else was going on while Jamie was at work.
“Do you love him?” Anne asked in the bed the three of them shared more often than not.
“Everyone loves Jamie,” Alex said, which was not a lie.
“Then why are we doing this?”
He couldn’t stand the hint of agony in her voice, barely covered by desire. A hundred lies tripped to his tongue, and what would one more be on top of all the others? But it was getting harder to lie to Anne about everything. Harder to lie to himself.
“Because we can’t stop ourselves.”
They fucked in every way but that small one, and in the end, it wasn’t cock in cunt that mattered. It was mouth on mouth, skin on skin. Breath on breath. It was the way she curled her fingers in his hair and pulled, just right, and how she cried out his name when he put his mouth on her flesh. It was how she clung to him when she cried about the mess her family had made of their lives. It was how she looked inside him, all the way down, and he wanted her to see what was there.
“This is more than it was supposed to be,” Anne said when the love had been made, all day long, and both of them were boneless and sated from it.
Alex couldn’t answer her. Words fought to come out, and he bit them back. Lies or truth, in the end it didn’t matter what he said. He could hardly tell the difference, any more.

Oh wow. I mean… how could any story with Alex in it NOT be deep and heart wrenching, but still. Wow.

YES! YES! YES! This is awesome! I can’t wait to read all of this! I loved Alex. He seemed to be such a complex person and I wanted to know all his deeply hidden secrets…I wanted someone to really love him forever and him to be happy…I still do!

@Dianne: thanks, Dianne! It won’t happen in Everything Changes, which takes place during the same time frame as Tempted. But in the full length novel, I promise, he gets his happy.

Hey Megan! That’s great!
Do you have a release date yet for Alex’s full length novel and a book name yet?
Thanks!
Dianne

@Dianne: Alex’s book is not yet titled, and the release date for now is summer 2010.
I will get started on it very soon!

Tempted is the first book of yours that I have read. I have read it three times now. LOL I fell in love with your writing. I have just purchased Broken and it’s on the way. I will just have to immerse myself in your other works until my beloved Alex makes his appearance again. Thanks so much for giving him his own story.

@Dianne: I hope you like Broken!
Yeah. Alex. He’s popular, that guy. That bad, bad boy. People love him, but I can’t say I blame them. I like him a whole bunch, too.

Alex seemed like a lost soul to me. I just found myself wanting to take care of him and shield him from the pain of his past. Well, and maybe do a few others things too. Fans self…got kinda warm in here! LOL

@Dianne: What is it about those lost souls? In real life I wouldn’t have the patience for it, I have to admit.
September 9th, 2008 at 2:27 pm · Link
Well, you know, patience would definitely be needed, that’s for sure. And a thick skin. I think wanting to save them from their feelings of unworthiness would be painful in itself, since their pain would become your pain if you dared to reach out. Then there’s always the chance of failure. Love doesn’t necessaily conquer all, although I would want it to be that easy!

@Dianne: Sometimes people are broken. Sometimes, they’re just cracked. Sometimes, no matter what you do, they’d rather hold on to their painful pasts. And some people are just pussies who should get over their awful childhoods and move on, but they never will! They use their pasts as an excuse to be buttheads in the present!
But I’m glad I get to be a writer and tell all their stories anyway.

Love their stories so here’s a toast to all the bad boys and girls, lost souls, the cracked and the broken! LOL

Oh Megan this, this was wonderful. I adored Alex in Tempted. And like so many others, I want to see him “get his happy” when his full length book comes out. He’s the type of soul I love to know. Real, flaws and all. Great excerpt. Looking forward to the rest.

@Linda: Thank you, Linda. I’m sorry that you won’t be able to get it until 2010…the Brief is scheduled to come out just before his full-length novel.
Maybe someone should start a letter-writing campaign! LOL!

Or maybe even yesterday!

Other than the fact that you gave all of us Alex to think about in your great book, it’s not your fault!
Don’t the PTB know that we HAVE to have our Alex “fix”!?
Really looking forward to it no matter how long it takes to get it though, so no worries. Just keep on doing what you do so well!

Thanks, Megan, for giving us these excerpts every once in a while. Even unedited, they really serve to tide us over while we wait months for the next book.
If I sound like a “story junkie”, well, maybe I am . :smirk:

@ Megan: Is Alex’s brief and book written from his POV? Also, I know I’ve asked this before, but couldn’t find the post, but will Sadie and Joe get their story continued, too?
@Dianne: You WILL LOVE Broken! And don’t forget to get Dirty, too.

Oh man, how about a spoiler warning! I too, love Alex and I hope this brief will clear some questions up from Tempted. I really loved that book but was always confused about Alex’s motivation. It seemed like he mostly was just triangulating his desire for Jamie onto Anne. I was never clear on whether he was into her or not. I hoped so. He’s very mysterious, that one.
Megan: I agree with your assessment of lost souls. I was far more into someone like Dan from Dirty who in my mind is a cross between Jon Stewart and Anderson Cooper without the white hair. mmm. Anyway, look forward to reading Alex’s books, but you have sooner released coming out too, yes? Look forward to it!

@Judith: Layover is a Spice Brief, comes out in Dec. and Stranger comes out in January! Taking Care of Business hits the UK in October and here in the US in March.

@Carol: The Brief is, but the novel most likely will not. Or maybe partly in his, I haven’t decided yet.
I have no plans for Sadie and Joe right now, but they do show up briefly in Deeper, due out July 09.

@Carol: I purchased Dirty this morning so I should have it soon. I am still waiting for Broken to arrive. Darn slow media mail. LOL

I just finished Tempted last night and I woke up this AM at 2 and could not get back to bed. My heart went out to Alex and would love to read more about this character. I found this blog, hoping I could find a listing of books he is in, perferably in the order that he grows. I personally love how fractured he is, I loved how Anne grew in the book and how Alex dared her to come out of her shell and start telling people what she actually thought. She will go own being a much more fullfilled person for it, even with the heartache. I was happy for the ending, because there is no way it could have ended any other way if they truly loved Jamie as much as they said they did.
Threesomes sure do sound like fun, but I think you hit the nail on the head with it’s complications. Don’t try it unless you are willing to be the odd man out in the end.
Sorry for rambling, loved the book and I’m off to purchase more on Audible (I listen on public transit, wonder what people think I’m blushing over
