House Of Wonder…
house-of-wonder

12 pages today…

lines of the day: Harry was having one of his good days. Basically, this meant that he’d been able to sleep with few dreams, and that when he woke up he was able to swing his legs out of bed and shuffle off to the bathroom to piss without needing to use the chamber pot. He still had more good days than bad, but Harry remembered his mother’s last days all too well. He thought that if ever he reached the point where he could no longer see, could no longer get himself out of bed at all, he would simply empty all the pills in the medicine cabinet into his palm and swallow them, one by one, with a glass of milk.

…Oh, and I’ve “made it.”
oh-and-ive-made-it

I guess you’ve made it when you find your books in a random thrift shop.

That’s my aunt, who’s as shocked as I am. We suspect we even know who donated the books.

They were signed, you see. *raises brow*

Neither of these is available any longer, btw. They’re both out of print! Though you can still buy Nothing In Common from Amber Quill, the version here is the first-published book. (And yes, look at that cover. My god.)

So, what should I do with these two books? Save them? Auction them off as rare collectibles? Have a contest for women named Amy? (Since they’re signed…)

Day Five
day-five

Quit Diet Coke (and Coke Zero and all manner of cola, entirely) cold turkey on Thursday. It is now Day Five of the cola-less life. It was easier when I thought I had no cola to drink; little did I know Superman had stopped by Wegman’s (yeah, he’s got a serious fetish for that place) and picked me up another 12-pack.

Nice. Thanks, Superman.

But it’s still in the garage and I haven’t even looked at it.

Today I must bake bread, do laundry, cook a turkey, and hopefully write. Though I feel like I forgot where I was.

House of Wonder
house-of-wonder

I wrote more than 20 pages today. That is pretty good, considering all the days I have not written much of anything.

lines of the day:
Porter had danced with madness for a while. Held it in his arms. He’d gone to sleep with it on the pillow beside him, and he’d stared at its face in the mirror.
Now, Porter thought he might just bend madness over a chair and fuck it until it screamed.

Last night…
last-night

Last night I dreamed I met Barack Obama. This morning I quit Diet Coke cold turkey. Of the two, I’d have said the former was more likely to happen to me than the latter.

True Blood
true-blood

Anyone watching it? I’m really enjoying it. I liked the Charlaine Harris books quite a bit — the first three, anyway, enough to recommend them to others. I’ve read them all but have lost track of how many there are and tend to read a few of them in a spurt and therefore overdose, but the first three I just loooooved. One of the sexiest lines, ever, in a book was in the first book, but I don’t have the book in front of me, (lent it out!) so can’t quote directly.

Anyway, normally I wouldn’t have HBO but we happened to get it as part of signing up for the Comcast DVR (I WANT MY TIVO BACK) and so I DVR’d it. And let me tell you it was ten kinds of pain in the ass. Have I mentioned how much I loathe Comcast DVR? And that I want my Tivo back?

I’m not sure Supernatural in HD is worth the angst.

Anyways….been watching True Blood and really like it a lot.

And this guy:

HOooooOOO-eeeee! Vampire Bill is teh sexay!!! I love the way he says “Sookie.” Mmmmm!

But the series is way more sexed up than the books were, with lots of bad language. I love it, but I’m wondering how Harris feels about it…it’s quite different from the books to have all the sex onscreen and the bad words. Even so, it feels true to the story and I’m really glad I started watching it.

To clarify…

My thoughts on a Sunday? Had nothing to do with anyone saying anything about me. And, I’d guess that it had nothing to do whatsoever with anyone who’s reading this blog.

I apologize if I made my reviewing friends uncomfortable. I’m not talking about expressing an opinion or reviewing books. Reviewing isn’t trashing or picking apart or making fun of — and you know…there are blogs that do that and if it’s readers doing it that’s still not my cuppa, but if it’s AUTHORS doing it to AUTHORS, that’s really just lame.

I’m really talking about peers pecking at each other for spite or because somehow it seems cool to be one of the big kids and look down upon someone else for not being where you are; or using your “opinion” to say that’s how we ALL should feel about a subject (what constitutes erotica being one such subject — I’ll make my own opinions on that, thanks, don’t need a voice box to speak for me.)

Honest opinion and review is different than picking something apart. You don’t have to like everything. Nobody does. But I just don’t think authors need to be slamming other authors on the internet. It looks bad for all of us, it’s not necessary. You can dislike something and express your opinion without making it into a huge deal.

So, that’s that — sorry if anyone took my post the wrong way. I wasn’t actually talking about any of you, and nothing was actually directed at me, and it was all sort of a mish mash of stuff, not just one specific thing.
